About Me
Hello there! I’m Shonita Joshi. I was born and raised in Pune, India. I received my under-graduate degree in Banking and Finance and completed my master’s in journalism. After working for two years at Google India, I realized that my love for acting in theatre and films is not just a mere hobby but a necessity. So I moved to Mumbai and worked in the Indian Film Industry for four years during which I performed in over 15 commercials, six Bollywood movies, five commercial plays and several TV shows including a recurring role in two Webseries.
In 2018 I moved to New York city to study at the ‘Stella Adler School of Acting’ and to further my training in American Theatre. After graduating in 2019, I worked for seven months at the renowned ‘Cincinnati Playhouse in Park’. During my time there I went on tour to perform in several children’s shows in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana while also developing and performing in immersive-theatre experiences throughout the tri-state area.
I am incredibly passionate about Animal welfare and the Environment and consider myself a proud activist for these causes. Additionally, I am a certified Dog Trainer and have also completed two levels in horse-riding.
I love art that has meaning and stories that affect people. I find ‘indifference’ to be the death of things. I see myself as an artist who is on a journey of finding meaning to the times we live in, while responsibly representing and carrying forth the unique voice of my people and stories of my culture, which is often underrepresented and stereotyped in the media.
